That Friday Feeling ...

Another early start! 4.55am start in fact! Need a couple of snoozes then up!

Some people find it an incredulous time to get up each day! I used to be too but realise now that its the best time for me! In fact i still cant believe how busy it is at 5.30am for opening!

Early mornings are certainly the winter preference when it's dark in the evenings! In the summer we can be active as a family of an evening! One of the main things that stops me heading to the gym is missing family time at home.

Starting so early in the morning means that I have to be super organised for the mass 'get everyone including myself out of the door for 8am' operation! Not necessarily a bad thing! Not only that if I turn the alarm off and don't make it I get super grumpy! Probably angry with myself for being weak but like the charmer I am I take it out on everyone else!

Sometimes I do crazy things when I'm half asleep getting ready e.g put deodorant on my hair instead of hairspray, forget to put contact lenses in, forget how to put the car in gear! At least it means I'm wide awake by the time I get to work.

My strategy for being gym ready at the crack of dawn;
  • Get the kids lunch boxes ready the night before
  • Have my gym gear ready the night before. I put mine in the hall or bathroom so I don't have to bother sleeping beauty! Although sometimes, much to his irritation, I forget something.
  • Have my bathroom routine thought out ie, get dressed, put on heart rate monitor, put in contact lenses, tie back hair and brush teeth
  • Early to to bed! 8.30pm is best! That's not going to be easy once the light nights begin!
  • Lay out things you need to take I.e water bottle, towel, headphones, keys.

Preparation is key! I'm not gonna lie I have considered sleeping in my gym clothes!

Onto today's action ...

FOOD
  • awesome Brekkie of poached eggs, avocado and a slice of toast
  • Peanut bar for morning tea
  • Veggie stack and salad from the local cafe for lunch
  • Gluten free corn chips for afternoon tea
  • Spaghetti and meatballs for dinner

DRINK
  • 3 cups of tea
  • 3 litres of water

  3. Funny kneeling crunch things pulling a weight behind my head and wood chopper things. Apologies for non technical explanations and I have no idea of weights or reps! I was too busy trying not to spew!

Running into Spring

As I mentioned in an earlier post spring is on its way. Some days it feels like it is here already!
I managed to get outside for exercise three times today ... Surely enough of an excuse for my gluttonous dinner!

FOOD
  • Avocado on toast for Brekkie
  • Peanut cereal bar for morning tea
  • Avocado, tomato, sundries tomato, shredded chicken, lite salad dressing and cottage cheese for lunch
  • 'Healthy' corn chips and peanut bar for afternoon tea
  • Chilli, nachos, cheese, retried beans and jalapeños for dinner ... Greedy dinner, naughty Rufus!

DRINK
  • Between 2 and 3 litres of water
  • 4 cups of tea
ACTIVITY

  • 10km run before work!
  • 15 minute walk with The Hound after the run
  • 30 minute family walk after work

Ah running what fun ...

Springing out of bed at 4.55am. The wind in your hair. The sea air in your lungs. The sound of my elephant feet thumping on the concrete, my hideous creepy heavy breathing, my moaning and whining that I can't go on ...
My running chum must just love it when I turn up!
I don't know how she does it but she breathes silently and trots along like a cute, little, light footed pony!
There is no denying the satisfaction of sitting down to Brekkie with your babies knowing that you have knocked out 10km while they were sleeping!

If you told my pre baby self what I would be up post baby I would have thought you were crazy ...

Some Might Say Overactive!

Busy, busy day! We're moving soon so as well as my scheduled exercise I spent 3 hours packing then 3 hours cleaning up the mess ... Bonus being that I didn't have much time to dwell on thoughts of task treats and I stuck to my scheduled food! If anything I may not have had enough to eat ...

FOOD
  • Toast and pâté for Brekkie
  • Peanut cereal bar for morning and afternoon tea
  • Avocado, tomato, cottage cheese, shredded chicken, jalapeños and sundries tomatoes for lunch
  • Chicken, potato, kumara, carrot, shallot and chopped tomatoes from the crockpot with a bit of rice! Quite a bit of carbs but planning a big run in the morning ...
DRINK
  • 2 litres of water
  • 3 cups of tea

ACTIVITY
  • 12 minutes going pretty hard on the cross trainer (pretty hard for 5.45am)
  • 30 minutes Tabata training (if you don't know what it is google it and do it it is awesome)
  • 12 minutes interval training on the treadmill

P.S. this reading includes 20 minutes of speed tidying once I got home! My actual workout probably totalled about 650 calories.

Lets Try That Again

Excuses don't burn calories indeed but I have a bunch of excuses and unburied calories ...

Last week went down pretty fast ... After contracting whatever hideous virus struck the boy down i was a snivelling, snorting, bug eyed, coughing and spluttery mess! My activity levels reduced to the minimum required for me and the kids to survive and comfort eating felt necessary!

Finish the week with an Earthquake or six and copious amounts of alcohol were added into the mix!

No exercise, comfort eating and alcohol were not really part of the 'Retraining Rufus' plan! Nevertheless here we are again, the start of a new week and another attempt at chasing the healthy lifestyle dream!

FOOD -
  • fancy gluten free six seed bread with pâté for Brekkie
  • same bread for morning tea with almond butter
  • avocado, tomato, cottage cheese, shredded chicken, sundries tomatoes, lite salad dressing for lunch, and a cheeky wee peanut cereal bar for pudding.
  • tiny sliver of sponge cake for afternoon tea
  • beans on toast for dinner

DRINK
  • copious amounts of tea and not enough water

ACTIVITY
  • exercise on a Monday is particularly tricky but we went for a wee run/walk with the pram and dog. Only 20 minutes but something to start the week of as I mean to go on ...

THE MONDAY MEASUREMENTS

Weight : 74.2kg
Chest : 100.5cm
Arms : 28cm
Waist : 105.5cm
Bum : 105.5cm
Thighs : 61cm

Motivational Monday

If ever there has been a Monday that I have needed motivation this is it! Still feeling like rubbish with the cold and stuck at home with Bronchiolitis Boy. It's cold and yucky outside too.

I get most of my motivation from 3 sources

1 - My work colleagues who are also my gym buddies. It's great to have a positive, healthy work atmosphere! If you know you've got to meet your work chum for a class/run/training session you feel a bit of a dick if you have to cancel or don't give it your all!

2 - My Personal Trainer! A luxury I know but it's worth it for me! I last had a PT four and a half years ago before my eldest came along (in fact I had a training session the day I went into labour!). It's only this year that I have taken the plunge and invested in my health and shelled out for a trainer again! When your trainer is an Ironman you can't really complain about your workout! Although it doesn't stop me!

3 - Some of the crazy folk I follow on Instagram!

@flextyfamous
@muffintopless
@mshelllll
@samanthasb1
@mahiehie

Check out some of their posts. These guys are truly out of my league but it doesn't stop them being an inspritation ...

Today's feeble (non) effort ...

FOOD - half a berry muffin
- 2 minute noodles
- homemade chicken curry and a teeny tiny handful of hot chips!

DRINK - 3 cups of tea
- 1 pint of water
- red wine! I choose not to divulge the volume!

ACTIVITY - None

Don't frett folks I know this is nonsense for a fitness blog BUT give me a few days ...

Sunday 11 August 2013

And so it begins ...

The countdown to spring is on! Spring starts on the 1st of September!! 20 days away!

20 days to get on track with my fitness and diet!

20 days to reduce my alcohol intake and naughty food intake!

20 days to increase my exercise.

20 days till Spring!

Yay!

Shame I've got a cold and feel like eating and drinking myself better!

FOOD - eggs on toast
- 2 minute noodles
- kettle chips
- homemade cookies
- chilli, tacos, rice, cheese, jalapeños

DRINK - 5 cups of tea
- 2 white wine and sodas

ACTIVITY - general housework was the extent of my action today

Not the best start BUT somewhere to start and draw a line in the sand!
